All Council axe heads are drop forged from high quality tool steel. <br><br><b>DESCRIPTION AND USAGE </b><br><br><b> Velvicut 2.25 Lb Premium Bad Axe Boy’s Axe</b> is pierced with a special punch forming ribs horizontally and vertically inside the eye, creating more contact area between the head and handle and resulting in a more durable tool. The Dayton patterned head features somewhat thicker cheeks although slightly convex. This feature, combined with a sharp edge, means a deeper bite without sticking, and each axe is hand sharpened to fit a gauge, ensuring consistency. This Council Tool axe is a great mid-sized tool for camping, carrying in a vehicle and at home – small enough to split kindling for the cook stove yet big enough to fell a tree.<ul><li> Forged from 5160 grade alloy steel </li><li> Bit is heat treated and quenched approximately 1 inch from the cutting edge, then tempered for maximum edge holding and toughness; final hardness Rc 52-56</li><li>28 Inch Handle is made of <b>grade A</b> American hickory and selected for grain orientation and density, making it strong.
