EISCO Scoria Specimen (Igneous Rock), Approx. 1" (3cm) - Pack of 12
Brand: EISCO
Scoria forms as spatter from bubbly, mafic lava is thrown into the air and cooled quickly. The crystallization happens so quickly that large air pockets are trapped within the rock, often giving samples a jagged, sharp appearance. Scoria is a good example of pyroclastic material, and can be used to great effect in igneous classification exercises.
Details
- Twelve scoria samples approximately 1" (3cm) in size
- The unconventional formation of this vesicular mafic material makes it a useful tool in lessons on eruption style and cooling rate
- Perfect size for use in classroom identification labs and exercises, correlates well to Next Generation Science Standards Evidence Statements
- Erupted from a spatter cone as large air bubbles made their way through the magma to the surface
- Specimen comes in clear labeled and barcoded bag for ideal storage
