EISCO Rhyolite Specimen (Igneous Rock), Approx. 1" (3cm) - Pack of 12
Brand: EISCO
Rhyolite is an aphanitic felsic rock, formed during eruptions of thick, viscous magma. The evolved chemistry of the rock makes it lightweight relative to other igneous rocks, a good identifier during classification exercises in the classroom. Often contains phenocrysts of felsic minerals with only slightly higher crystallization temperatures than the feldspar and quartz that forms rhyolite.
Details
- Twelve rhyolite samples approximately 1" (3cm) in size
- Fantastic sample to be used as a density comparison - this volcanic rock is much lighter than most other igneous rocks
- Perfect size for use in classroom identification labs and exercises, correlates well to Next Generation Science Standards Evidence Statements
- A high silica content makes it difficult for this rock to erupt, leading to explosive eruptions that emit ash and dust into the atmosphere
- Specimen comes in clear labeled and barcoded bag for ideal storage
