The contact activated microphone filters higher frequency background noises (which typically obscures auscultation) and then amplifies heart and lung sounds up to 18x. Improvements in this third generation model include a user-replaceable diaphragm and a rechargeable Li-ion battery for greater up-time - up to 400 exams on a single charge. Also, at 175 grams, it weighs less than most cardiology scopes.
